Established in 1969, the Nottingham New Theatre is the only student-run theatre in England. To maintain its credibility as a producer of the highest standard of amateur theatre, the theatre must continue to push boundaries, nurture its members' skills and strive for creative excellence.
That Nottingham New Theatre exists and thrives at a university without a drama- or theatre-specific degree course is testament to the commitment and talent of its members. At the 2013 National Student Drama Festival, the Nottingham New Theatre returned with an unprecedented seven awards.
Our enhancements to Nottingham New Theatre, such as providing the opportunity to work with professional crews, will continue to support amateur theatre of the highest quality.
Funding from Impact: The Nottingham Campaign has supported the Nottingham New Theatre to develop and expand:
The recent staging of Lysistrata at Lakeside provided members of Nottingham New Theatre with the chance to work with a professional crew and carry out industry-recognised work in a theatre, thanks to funding from affiliated Impact-project, Cascade.
The theatre's recent move to new premises presents fantastic scope for expansion and improvement, allowing the Nottingham New Theatre to further strengthen its presence within the local community and the national theatre scene.
What will your Impact be?
I regard the theatre as the greatest of all art forms, the most immediate way in which a human being can share with another the sense of what it is to be a human being.
Your support for Nottingham New Theatre will have a genuine impact on our ability to inspire and nurture student creativity, and support the local community, within the theatre environment. To help continue the theatre's work, visit our donation page .
We wanted to do something which provided the opportunity for members of the Nottingham New Theatre to work with professionals. Cascade exists to benefit students at the University, and without it this project would never have got off the ground.
Shona Powell, Director at Lakeside Arts Centre
Being involved in Lysistrata has been one of the best experiences of my life and I would recommend a similar project to anyone else. It has been amazing to have the chance to really develop my acting and writing skills through working with professionals.
