Hallward Library

Hallward Library supports the learning, teaching and research needs of the Faculty of Arts and the Faculty of Social Sciences.

This includes the subject areas of arts, humanities, law and social sciences, and a European Documentation Centre.

June Bank Holiday Opening

The library lending desk will be open over the Bank Holiday on Monday 4 and Tuesday 5 June 2012 from 9am until 5pm.

Closing procedures

Last entry to the library is 15 minutes before closing time. A tannoy is used to announce the closing procedures, starting 30 minutes before closing time.

This is a large building to clear and close, and some areas and equipment will be unavailable earlier than the closing time.

What is available at Hallward Library?

Audio visual

Please see the learning hub for details of equipment there. In addition, video and DVD playback equipment is available in the open area on level 4. Microform reader-printers are available in room 424, and these use the same payment system as print, copy and scan . Headphones are not available to borrow, although they are attached to the dedicated video and DVD playback equipment.

Computer training room

Room 101 is available for computer training, with 30 computers and a trainer’s computer and display screen. Please email IS Hallward Training Room  for information. When not booked for training, this room is made available for student use.

Learning Hub

Hallward has the largest learning hub with flexible learning spaces (open areas and bookable rooms link) offering the latest facilities including interactive SMARTboards, plasma screens, computers and video editing equipment.

The screening room is bookable via the Timetabling Office .

Postgraduate study rooms

Individual postgraduate study rooms are available (seven on level 3, eight on level 4) and can be booked via UNLOC for up to two days at a time until 9 pm on weekdays and 4 pm at weekends (times may differ during vacations).

To book on UNLOC , click on the Laptops/rooms link at the top of the basic search screen. Room keys are available from the lending desk and will be held for one hour after the start of the booked period. After that they will be made available to other users.

Fines for the late return of keys are 80 pence per hour.
