Students showcase advocacy skills in mooting finals

Students from the School of Law have recently battled it out for mooting honours in the final of this year’s internal mooting competitions. Looking to follow in the footsteps of victorious advocates were competitors in second and final year completion and the first year tort competition.

Second and Final Years

The second and final year tort final, sponsored by Ropewalk Chambers, was judged by Andrew Hogan from Ropewalk Chambers. The moot problem focused on property law, and led to detailed and interesting arguments from the four finalists, Thomas Phillips, Daniel Knowles, Rajvinder Chahal and Trina Tan.

The four finalists had progressed through a series of tough rounds prior to reaching the final. Despite all the competitors demonstrating top class mooting skills, Rajvinder Chahal was announced as the winner.

First Years

The final of the first year tort competition, sponsored by Nabarro, was judged by Professor Stephen Bailey and Dr Richard Hyde. Marian Basher, Adam Kayani, Tyne Lam and Khey Ken Lim had progressed through to the final following a series of hard fought heats.

During submissions focusing on liability for psychiatric injury, the four finalists displayed impressive mooting skills, and an ability to clearly and concisely respond to questions posed by the judges. By the narrowest of margins Mariam Basher was crowned the winner.

Well done to all who took part and congratulations to the overall winners!
