'After the end of the Gaza conflict, recognition of a Palestinian state best serves the cause of peace'

Dr Victor Kattan's article has recently been published by Australian Broadcasting Corporation (ABC) which addresses Palestine’s application for UN membership in 2011 and the conferral of observer state status on Palestine in 2012 – and the role played by the UK government during those negotiations when David Cameron was PM. There is also some material on Palestine’s second attempt to accede to the ICC (before it did so successfully on its third attempt in Jan 2015).  

It is a pertinent discussion in light of ongoing conversations on recognising a Palestinian state after the fighting ends in Gaza, which is being discussed by the UK, the US, the EU and is linked to the opening of diplomatic relations between Israel and Saudi Arabia.
