LLB, PhD (London), CMG. Professor of Public International Law, University of Nottingham 1981-2003. Head of Law Department 1986-1989. Co-Director, Human Rights Law Centre, University of Nottingham 1995-2021.

Human rights law consultant/ lecturer for the UN; the Council of Europe; the Venice Commission; the European Union; the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development; the UK Foreign and Commonwealth Office; and the UK Department for International Development. Committee of Independent Experts of the European Social Charter member 1990-1996.

Lectures/conference papers on human rights and other international law subjects in China, Cuba, Indonesia, Nigeria, Russia, the US and other countries. EU-China Human Rights Dialogue; EU-Indonesian Human Rights Dialogue
