Opera North workshops and study days
Directors and performers from Opera North work regularly with students and staff to explore operas in their repertory. These have included Keiser’s Fortunes of King Croesus, Verdi’s Macbeth, Puccini’s Tosca, Gershwin’s Of Thee I Sing.
Other workshops
Other musicians also work with students and staff, including Tête à Tête Opera and CHROMA (on the opera Odysseus Unwound ) and Edward Rushton (on the multi-media piece On the Edge ).
Opera Society
The students' Opera Society (OpSoc) mounts ambitious productions of operas from all periods. Past performances include Maozart's The Magic Flute and The Marriage of Figaro, and Purcell's Dido and Aeneas.
Screenings
Occasional screenings of films and operas are shown. These have included West Side Story (as part of a study day led by Prof Nigel Simeone, University of Sheffield).
Lakeside Arts Centre
A variety of music theatre and multi-media works are brought to the University’s Djanogly Recital Hall and Djanogly Theatre as part of the programme of events provided by the Lakeside Arts Centre.
