Solid surfaces in ultra-high vacuum. Surface reactivity and dynamics. Developing new methods involving "line of sight" techniques and novel analysers (the Speed by Linear Analysis of Trajectory analyser). Electron stimulated surface reactions using pulsed electron breams. Surface structure. Developing synchrotron based method, particularly X-ray Standing Wave (XSW) analysis and Normal Incidence X-ray Standing Wave Analysis (NIXSW). Surface systems include halocarbon adsorption on metals, self assembly systems (thiols and disulphides on gold) and other molecule/metal surface systems.
