The high quality and standards of higher education provision at The University of Nottingham have been recognised by the award of the Quality Mark by the Quality Assurance Agency for Higher Education (QAA).

In its report published today (July 21 2016), the QAA commended the University for its enhancement of student learning opportunities – the highest rating possible – and identified five areas of good practice.

“We are particularly pleased that our approach to enhancing student learning opportunities has been commended. All of our staff work extraordinarily hard to give our students the best possible experience throughout their time in Nottingham. Specific initiatives include employer engagement, access to mentoring schemes, the Nottingham Advantage Award and wider opportunities to enhance student employability as well as encouraging our students to gain work placements and broader development experiences both here in the UK and also with our campuses in China and Malaysia.

“The QAA’s findings have also flagged good practice in five areas, reaffirming our strategic objectives around ensuring our teaching is of the highest calibre and emphasizing the priority we give to improving the student experience.”

The team of QAA reviewers visited the University in April 2016, as part of its remit to safeguard the public interest in the quality and standards of UK higher education. The review was carried out by experts from other universities and a student reviewer.

The review team judged that the University’s academic standards, the quality of its student learning opportunities and the quality of its information about learning opportunities all met UK standards.

Areas of good practice were identified in: opportunities for student employability, peer observation of teaching, embedded engagement with students to promote learning opportunities, the University’s Teaching and Learning Review process and its Transforming Teaching Programme.

It made recommendations around provision for students who change courses and accessibility of complaints procedures.

The successful review means that The University of Nottingham can display the QAA Quality Mark, indicating to UK and international students that the University meets national requirement for standards and quality.
