Description
Antislavery International Student Chapter
According to the Global Slavery Index, around 46 million men, women and children around the world are in a form of slavery today. Contemporary slavery takes various forms and affects people of all ages, gender and races. In Britain, enslaved workers are often hidden in plain sight, forced to work in nail bars, on construction sites, in brothels, and in agriculture. Earlier this year, the Prime Minister condemned slavery as "the great human rights issue of our time," promising that Britain would lead the fight against it.

We want you to be part of that fight. Are you passionate about social justice? Are you concerned about the issue of modern-day slavery? Are you looking for an opportunity to make a difference and to learn important, employable skills?

Anti-Slavery International, a leading global charity dedicated to fighting contemporary slavery, is setting up a network of student activist chapters. We are looking for committed, socially engaged students to spearhead the University of Nottingham branch and to lead innovative fundraising and awareness-raising campaigns both on campus and in the wider community.

We want to hear from you – do you want to know more about contemporary slavery and the work scholars and activists are already doing to understand and tackle the issue? What sorts of campaigns and events are you interested in? What skills and experiences do you want to gain?

Come along to our preliminary meeting to hear more about contemporary antislavery activism, Nottingham’s existing expertise and interest in this area, and to discuss your interests and vision for a student antislavery society.

Refreshments served! Held in collaboration with Stop the Traffik UoN, the University of Nottingham's branch of Stop The Traffik, a charity which aims to raise awareness of human trafficking.
