Broadening Our Understanding of Good Home Care (BOUGH)

This project aims to improve care for people with dementia by exploring what ‘good’ home care looks like, and establishing what home carers do in practice.

The study, involving researchers from NCARE and the School of Sociology and Social Policy, uses methods of qualitative data collection from clients and staff of two home care franchises in the East Midlands.

The research is investigating what it feels like to give and to receive home care and how home care relationships are experienced by care workers and recipients. It is also aiming to identify the stresses and rewards of working with people with dementia in home care and to establish what key factors influence home care quality.

It is hoped that the findings will inform home care policy service development and workforce training.
