About Us
The Sustainable Process Technologies Research Group is expanding rapidly to meet the growing demand for alternatives to petroleum-based feedstocks for chemicals and materials manufacturing. We develop innovative products and processes by integrating biocatalytic and chemical approaches to add value to renewable feedstocks.
We combine biocatalysis, synthetic biology, chemistry, materials science and process engineering to develop advanced biomanufacturing processes, sustainable production methods, and functional materials.
Recent successes include the development of non-toxic ionic liquids for biocatalytic processing, efficient low cost processes for artemisinin extraction from biomass and the development of new biocatalysts for asymmetric reductions and preparation of bulk platform chemicals.
