Research Summary

Prospect of Floatovoltaics for the Sustainable Development of Bangladesh: Energy Efficiency, Land and Water Management

Renewable energy become very popular all over the world due to the zero CO2 emission and decrease of levelized cost per unit electricity generation. Among the different RET, solar PV system is growing fast due to its huge potemtiality.. But the most important limitations of this technology is the land scarcity that forces to find out alternative to over come land limitation. As a result, floating solar PV system is replacing the ground mounted PV system in different developed and developing countries very fast where land is really a great factor.. It also can save water by reducing water evaporation. However, there are different findings on technical performance of floating PV system (0.079 to 31.29%) over ground based PV system that really confused the investors to take decision. On the other hand, still there is no software that can be used to determine such technical performance for floating PV system. As a result, different methods applied by different researchers and found wide variation in findings. So, it is important to understand the real fact behind that and also to determine the real performance of Floating PV system. HDPE floating structure is widely usd to float the PV modules on water surface in floatovoltaics. . So, the environmental impact of using these HDPE floats is also another important issue where still there is no detail research. As a result, in this PhD research study the techno-economic and environmental performance of floating PV system will be studied detail over ground based PV system. On the other hand, to reduce the cost of LCOE, how the local products can be used to build the floating structures. will also be studied.
