The Priority Group

Through its interdisciplinary Science, Technology and Society (STS) Research Priority Group, the University of Nottingham brings together scholars from various Faculties to provide high-impact, agenda-setting, and policy-relevant research at the intersection between science and society.

Over the last three years, the STS Research Priority Group has secured major funding for interdisciplinary research projects in the following areas:

  • Cultural framing of climate change debates
  • Neuroscience and changing concepts of human nature
  • Presentation of new technologies in the media and politics
  • Social and ethical implications of biofuels and other new energy sources
  • Rural hybrid energy enterprise systems
  • Public understanding of science and issues of political legitimacy, scientific authority and democratic participation

Beyond connecting diverse Nottingham researchers, the Priority Group provides seed funding to develop pilot research into innovative new work, as well as facilitating engagement with external agencies and businesses.
