Expertise Summary

The Widening Participation Team leads the University's work to engage learners from less advantaged backgrounds in education and support their progression to higher education, including the University of Nottingham. The Team delivers over 80,000 places on more than 3,400 outreach activities each year. We support measures across the student lifecycle relating to admissions, success, financial support and progression.

The WP Programmes area of work targets high-achieving young people with the potential to progress to a selective university. Our programmes include Realising Opportunities, the week-long Sutton Trust and Nottingham Potential Summer Schools in July, taster sessions, masterclasses and revision sessions for the pre-16 and post-16 Ambition Nottingham programme, as well as activities for other schemes such as Pathways to Law and Pathways to Medicine.

I lead on Pathways programmes, supporting cohorts of year 12 and 13 students across the two years of post-16 study with subject specific masterclasses, work experience, UCAS support and e-mentoring. The programmes aim to give students an insight to relevant degree and future professions, helping them make informed choices about the progression routes. I also lead on the Realising Opportunities Scheme, a national collaborative outreach programme for post-16 students, supporting progression to Research Intensive Universities.
