What is a randomised controlled trial?
This RLO outlines how Randomised Controlled Trials (RCTs) work.
Glomerular Filtration Pressure
The RLO deals with the opposing forces within the glomerulus and the Bowmans capsule which together create the glomerular filtration pressure. The RLO builds on the Starlings Forces RLO by the same author and is intended to form the basis for a future RLO on glomerular filtration rate. This RLO was developed jointly with De Montfort University.

Structures of the brain
This learning resource allows the learner to label a diagram of the brain and is aimed at identification of the major areas of the brain (cerebrum, cerebellum, medulla, pons, midbrain, thalamus, hyporthalamus and pituitary gland). Once correctly labelled, the learner can access information about these structures. Additional interactions allow the learner to explore the diagram to discover the structures for themselves, whilst an MCQ allows them to test their knowledge.
7.342 Powerhouse Rules: The Role of Mitochondria in Human Diseases (MIT)
The primary role of mitochondria is to produce 90% of a cell's energy in the form of ATP through a process called oxidative phosphorylation. A variety of clinical disorders have been shown to include "mitochondrial dysfunction," which loosely refers to defective oxidative phosphorylation and usually coincides with the occurrence of excess Reactive Oxygen Species (ROS) production, placing cells under oxidative stress. A known cause and effect of oxidative stress is damage to and mutati

Biological Rhythm and Health Sciences
Every creature inhabiting the earth, including human beings, lives with a body rhythm of various periods. Among the various studies, the study of circadian rhythm was performed flourishingly in particular and it became clear that the circadian rhythm was closely related to a behaviour pattern in our daily life and health after a series of studies about how it was performed. As a result of fixed 24-hour society in our life, we are having a lot of benefits but on the other hand, the body rhythm wi

Using the Worm, Caenorhabditis elegans, in Undergraduate Genetics and Developmental Biology Laborato
C. elegans is easy to use, transparent, reproduces quickly, and has a cloned genome. All of these factors make it an ideal system for use in introductory, genetics or developmental biology labs. This lab familiarizes students with the life cycle, development, terminology, and common mutant phenotypes of C. elegans. It also introduces the use of GFP transgenic worms to visualize specific cell types in the worm. A detailed sample experiment is included that takes students through using genetic cro
