University Faculty Expressions of Computer Self-Efficacy and Personal Attitudes Regarding the Viabil
Studies have shown that there is a direct link between a teacher’s attitude towards self-efficacy and effectiveness. Further studies have refined this idea of how expressions of computer self-efficacy impacts upon attitudes regarding the use of technology in the classroom and by inference, the effectiveness of such technology. The purpose of this mixed method design study was to examine the impact that such attitudes can have upon faculty teaching at institutions of higher education as they re
The Health Impact of Resolving Racial Disparities: An Analysis of US Mortality Data
The US health system spends far more on the “technology” of care (e.g., drugs, devices) than on achieving equity in its delivery. For 1991 to 2000, we contrasted the number of lives saved by medical advances with the number of deaths attributable to excess mortality among African Americans. Medical advances averted 176 633 deaths, but equalizing the mortality rates of Whites and African Americans would have averted 886202 deaths. Achieving equity may do more for health than perfecting the te
Asleep at the Switch: Local Public Health and Chronic Disease
Local health departments generally do a good job of monitoring and controlling conditions that killed people in the United States 100 years ago. Yet noncommunicable diseases, which accounted for less than 20% of US deaths in 1900,1 now account for about 80% of deaths.2 Our local public health infrastructure has not kept pace with this transition. Health departments must continue to handle traditional public
health priorities as well as emerging infectious diseases. They must also increasingly ad

While others within the field of anthropology have acknowledged Nagel’s view, its application has been few. By reviewing the primordialist and circumstantialist debate over ethnicity within anthropology, the foundation will be laid to access the applicability of Nagel’s approach for resolving issues about ethnicity that still remain yea
Are they ready to make the switch? Results of the WSU Libraries survey on electronic and print colle
A recent survey of Wichita State University faculty, staff, and students by the WSU Libraries shows the university community far from consensus on the issue of print versus electronic journals and other resources. The survey, made available to the entire campus via the Web, provides an in-depth look at the importance of materials in different formats, how print and electronic journals are located and used, the interest in alternative delivery methods, and the level of support for canceling subsc
