I went on to look at the special nature of that tool, establishing that its function is to capture, store, present, exchange and manipulate interesting aspects of the world.

3.4 Consensus conference on plant biotechnology

The first UKNCC (at Regent's College) was hosted by the Science Museum and funded by the Biotechnology and Biological Sciences Research Council (BBSRC). The conference was based on a procedural model developed by the Danish Board of Technology. In Denmark, consensus conferences are held regularly and can be seen to have had unequivocal effects on policy making. Indeed, in a number of instances, Parliament has explicitly incorporated lay-panel recommendations in legislation. For example, lay-p

Engineering a Broken Heart
The heart is a miraculous muscle. Yet every year for over one million people this vital organ quits. Heart muscle damage, most commonly caused by a heart attack, can lead to heart failure when the organ forms scar tissue rather than growing new muscle tissue. UW researchers, led by bioengineer and physician Charles Murry, are merging engineering technology, stem cells and medicine to regenerate heart muscle. By the time I applied for CERN, I had MIT and NASA on my resume
Watching “Apollo 13” as a child, physics student Hayley Osman told her dad she would be an astronaut. Believing in her potential, he continually reminded her that she could do it as long as she focused on math and science. Now, even though she no longer hopes to live the life of an astronaut, she sees that his advice paid off. In the fall of her freshman year at Missouri State, she started researching in Dr. Saibal Mitra’s lab, and he connected her with internships at Boston’s Massachus

Academic research on student engagement - lost formulae to inspiring students
This paper shows academic tutors take on a multitude of roles in their current positions at university and while teaching is expected, from most, it is often assumed that the tutor will apply appropriate pedagogical tools to convey knowledge to the students. This view is now being challenged as many students are being actively encouraged to voice their views of the teaching and learning experience this paper shows

2.2 Using A. tumefaciens to genetically modify plant cells

Genetic engineers have capitalised on the fact that part of the DNA from the Ti plasmid of A. tumefaciens is integrated into the plant genome during the infection process. Ti plasmids can be isolated and a foreign gene spliced in at an appropriate point, making it possible to transfer the novel gene into the plant.
