The impact of example comparisons on schema acquisition: Do learners really need multiple examples?
Comparing multiple examples within problem categories is usually considered a necessary prerequisite for schema acquisition. However, there is an evident lack of conclusive empirical evidence supporting this claim. Moreover, there are findings indicating that carefully designed one-example conditions may allow for profitable processes of example comparison as well. Using text messaging to support administrative communication in higher education
To be effective in higher education, text messaging must be effectively integrated into both the student and staff experience. These user groups provided input into the design of StudyLink, an email to text message service. Al-90 wt% Cu (bronze)
This is a copper-aluminium bronze containing 10 wt% aluminium. A small amount of iron is often added to act as a grain refiner to improve the mechanical properties. Alloys with more than 8 wt% aluminium solidify as the β phase. Below about 930°C, Widmanstätten α phase precipitates. At the eutectoid temperature (565°C) the remaining β decomposes to a lamellar eutectoid of α and β. Rapid cooling from the high temperature β phase can form martensite instead of Widmanstätten α. SEM image of open cell polyurethane foam
If a gas is injected into a liquid it forms a cellular foam structure. When a thermoset prepolymer of low viscosity is foamed, the polymer can drain from the cell walls (driven by surface tension) before it sets at the cell edges, leaving an open-celled foam. The cell edges have three concave sides, giving rise to the tri-cuspid cross section visible at the bottom of this image. The average co-ordination number for the nodes (where struts meet) is four, giving tetrahedral junctions.
