James M. Lang, ON COURSE: A Week-by-Week Guide to Your First Semester of College Teaching
"Briskly moving through the basics, [Lang] tackles the hard questions...with humor and insight...'On Course' is a vital resource for educators, even those who don't fit the first-year college-teaching market. My copy is dotted with notes about new ideas to try out in my lecture class this fall. Happily though, I took away from Lang's guidebook much more than techniques." -Barbara J. 2.2 The classic six-stage project management model

This model also consists of stages, but, unlike the sequential flow of the project life-cycle, the six-stage model assumes that some stages are carried out simultaneously. In particular, the model (Figure 3) assumes that communications will take place throughout the project. It also assumes that team building, leading and motivation will take place once the project has been defined and continue until it ends.

The role of awareness in the teaching and learning of literacy and numeracy at key stage 2
Our starting point is that explicit understanding of key concepts will promote children’s progress in literacy. We argue that this depends on their teachers having explicit knowledge of the concepts which is translated into teaching practice. These ideas are explored in the context of the teaching of morphology and reading comprehension in 50 London primary schools. In our first study, teacher’s explicit awareness and practice of morphology and reading comprehension strategies are documented

Intensive quantities: why they matter to mathematics education
Ever since Piaget's (1952) classic work on number, a fundamental distinction has been drawn in the mathematics literature between extensive and intensive quantities. Extensive quantities (for example, volume, distance) are based on the logic of part-whole relations. Adding 20 decilitres of orange squash to 60 decilitres produces 80 decilitres of orange squash, since the whole is the sum of the parts. Intensive quantities (for example, density, speed) are based on the logic of co-variation. Addin

Synthetic repurchase programs through put derivatives: theory and evidence
A Synthetic Repurchase is an open market share repurchase program enhanced with sales of put derivatives on the firm’s own stock. Microsoft, in 1999, using a synthetic repurchase program sold put derivatives on its own stock and received $766 million in premiums and, at the same time, signaled that it is a good-quality company and certified its future earnings. I present theoretical rationale that explains why a synthetic repurchase program provides an efficient signal about a firm’s future
