LSE Asia Forum - 08:00 - 09:45 (Chinese Translation) - Welcome & Introduction | Keynote Speech | Add
The fifth LSE Asia Forum took place in Beijing on 25-26 March 2010 with the support of the China Institute of International Studies (CIIS). The Forum addressed a wide range of issues of deep interest to policymakers and wider society, under a general theme relating to the recent challenges and changes that have affected the global economy. A key focus of the Forum was on the role of China in tackling the recent challenges, and what lessons can be learnt for the future. This session comprises the
New Venture Development and Industry Analysis Map (undergraduate level)
The objective of this course is to equip McGuire Entrepreneurship Program students with the conceptual and analytical tools necessary for developing a strong sustainable competitive advantage for your proposed new venture. The proposed business will not succeed without identification and understanding of the industry, the company's niche, its key competitors, likely customer relationships, supplier power, switching costs, the role of technological change and government regulation; the proposed b

Small Business Division
The Clarkson University School of Business has a goal of providing its students with competencies in organizational leadership, teamwork, communication, critical thinking and problem solving skills, interpersonal skills and an awareness of ethical issues. This course offers students a chance to explore and apply those competencies by providing a real life, multi-disciplinary, team-based consulting experience. Each semester several consulting projects are presented to the students by outside orga
Renewable Energy: Wind
This lesson introduces students to the uses of wind energy. Topics include a history of wind usage (grinding grain, pumping water, transportation), including the development of wind power in the United States and its more recent adaptations.

The Cryosphere : Greenland Virtual Field Trip
This section part of the Virtual Fieldclass provides an overview of Greenland from a social sciences and humanities perspective. The VFT is built around a downloadable PowerPoint presentation and bibliography supported by maps, photos and video.
Medical Product Quality Systems
Learn about the essential elements of Quality System Regulations (QSR's) and Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP's), how there is a commonality between them, and how to develop a global approach to Quality Systems in order to satisfy international requirements of ISO 9001:2000 and ISO 13485:2003. A detailed analysis of these systems and practical 'how to' recommendations and approaches are presented, with particular emphasis on the United States Food and Drug Administration (FDA) QSR's and GMP's.
Planning GIS for Emergency Management
This course introduces the potential of GIS to support all stages of emergency (crisis or disaster) management activities, the latest R&D advances that are helping to achieve this potential now, and some challenges for the future. The course focuses on requirements analysis and proposal writing targeted toward planning and implementing GIS solutions for government agencies and contractors. As a basis from which to pursue these objectives, Planning GIS for Emergency Management introduces the curr
Digital Government II: Information Technology and Democratic Administration, Winter 2007
This seven-week course is the second in a two-part sequence exploring contemporary practices, challenges, and opportunities at the intersection of information technology and democratic governance. This second half of the course takes on emerging directions in democratic administration – and the shifting role of information technologies in supporting, transforming, and understanding these. The course locates recent and emerging digital or e-government initiatives in historical, institutional, a
Studies in robust estimation and control
Effective monitoring and tight control of chemical, petrochemical and biochemical processes are often hindered by the absence of frequent measurements of important process variables that are related to product quality, the presence of process-model mismatch, unmeasureable disturbances, measurement noise, and highly nonlinear process dynamics. This dissertation presents new methods of nonlinear estimation and control in the presence of such practical problems. Simulation and real-time implementat
Digital Government 2: Information Technology and Democratic Administration, Winter 2009
Course is the second of a two-part sequence exploring contemporary practices, challenges, and opportunities at the intersection of information technology and democratic governance. Whereas the first course (SI 532) focuses on tensions and innovations in democratic politics, this course takes on emerging directions in democratic administration and the shifting role of information technologies in supporting, transforming, and understanding these. The first part of the course sets contemporary disc
Design, optimization and in vivo evaluation of a tissue-engineered anterior cruciate ligament replac
This thesis examined the development of a tissue-engineered ligament (TEL) for anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) repair and replacement. There was an in vitro evaluation of the cellular response to the TEL and an in vivo evaluation of the optimized TEL as an ACL replacement. Scaffold fabrication was based upon the use of poly ([Greek small letter alpha]-hydroxyester) acid fibers arranged in a 3-dimensional (3-D) braided structure. In vitro cellular evaluation of the poly(lactide-co-glycolide) (PL
Carbon nanotube reinforced carbon nano composite fibrils by electro-spinning
Fibers of Polyacrylonitrile (PAN) are the precursor of 90% of produced carbon fibers. It is generally thought that the better the degree of molecular orientation in the original PAN fiber, the better the mechanical properties, in particular the modulus of the resultant fibers. Electro-spinning is a unique process in that it is able to produce polymer fibers having diameters ranging over seve ral orders of magnitude, from the micrometer range typical of conventional fibers down to the nanometer r
