Why the ‘Electronic Nose’ Is Set to Revolutionize Health Care
A new sensor that can be embedded into your smartphone will smell your breath and tell you how many calories you're burning in real-time. It sounds like a gadget out of a sci-fi movie, but it has the potential to advance modern day health care.
College Students, Social Media, and the Self
The following presentation is from my PhD dissertation proposal hearing. Lawrence Bailey - Market Research Valedictory Lecture
Colleagues from both academia and business were present on 27 January 2011 for Lawrence Bailey's guest lecture on Market Segmentation, Qualitative Research and Conversations Across the Garden Wall. The garden wall of the lecture's title was Lawrence's metaphor for the potential divide between the two sectors. The lecture reflected Lawrence's career-long wish to get qualitative researchers in the commercial world to talk to their counterparts in the academic world, and vice versa. He discusse

Here is a two stage template you can modify for your own use; Stage 1: A very personal consideration of events etc. You may only want to keep this for yourself to see. Stage 2: Translating your feeling and thoughts into a record that can be shown to others together with extended analysis. The entries do not need to be large but related to the topic.

Core Physics PBL – An Insurance Scam?
‘An Insurance Scam’ is a first year PBL project to be undertaken by small groups of (approximately 4) students, working as teams to perform a variety of experiments to answer a set of questions posed to them. Each group will work in a couple of pairs, each pair performing some experiments and then sharing their findings with the other. The theory required for this PBL is written in the course book (Physics for Scientists and Engineers, Tipler), although some rational thinking may be required
AFFIRM Assessment and Formative Feedback In Research Methods - literature review
‘AFFIRM’ is part of Leeds Met’s efforts to promote research-informed teaching. A pilot project, it is concerned with computer-assisted assessment (CAA) related to the teaching of research methods. Over a 12-month period in 2007-8 it will create, test and evaluate a small computerised bank of quality-checked items to support undergraduate and taught postgraduate-level research methods teaching. Although the items are likely to have several potential uses, i.e. to be ‘reusable learning obj
