Macy's Picks the Minuteman Band!
Mark your calendar for Thanksgiving Day 2013 when the Minuteman Marching Band will perform in New York in the Macy's Parade. Macy's officials traveled to UMass Amherst on April 3 to make the surprise announcement to band members. You can head to New York to be among the 3.5 million expected live spectators or tune in to the nationally televised event that typically draws 50 million viewers. The band's performance will be among many UMass sesquicentennial highlights in 2013.
GRCC CO230 Hamming Code (7,4) Introduction to Telecommunications
In coding theory, Hamming(7,4) is a linear error-correcting code that encodes 4 bits of data into 7 bits by adding 3 parity bits. It is a member of a larger family of Hamming codes, but the term Hamming code often refers to this specific code that Richard W. Hamming introduced in 1950. At the time, Hamming worked at Bell Telephone Laboratories and was frustrated with the erroneous punched card reader, which is why he started working on error-correcting codes.
