Space Time Travel
Black holes and travel at nearly the speed of light: Visualization of the theory of relativity. This site offers online papers, images, movies and paper models. The website presents computer simulations that provide "virtual experiences."The images and movies are correctly computed within the framework of the theory of relativity. They are carefully explained in an intuitive, non-mathematical way.

The Grid Shared Desktop for CSCL
The Grid Shared Desktop (GSD) is a collaborative environment that provides a multidimensional humans-to-machine-to-humans interface by the means of multiples cleverly intricated desktops. The GSD is a platform independent solution that benefits of the intrinsic advantages of the Grid technology such as scalability and security. In order to verify that our GSD solution meets CSCL requirements, we have conducted experiments in the context of the ELeGI project. As part of the project use cases, the
Procedures in Obstetrics and Gynaecology
Book providing practical approach to broad range of procedures in obstetrics and gynaecology. As doctors practicing Obstetrics and Gynaecology, we care for women on a daily basis who are dependent on our level of practical competence. Our ability to perform a broad range of procedures enables us to in the very least improve the quality of life in women and often save the lives of mothers and babies. Authors have been selected by virtue of their experience with the procedure and the reader is th
From texture to volume: an investigation in quasi-crystalline systems
The relation between texture, pattern and massing is a fundamental question in architecture. Classical architecture, as Leon Battista Alberti states in ?De re aedificatoria? (Book VI, Chapter 2), is developed through massing and structure first; texture is added afterwards to give the bold massing and structure beauty. Only the ornamentation adds pulcritudo to the raw structure and massing. Rather than starting with a volume and applying texture afterwards, the Digital Girih project started with
Greener Game Days
The Greener Game Days project utilizes Penn State's Athletics facilities, with a focus on the larger facilities such as Beaver Stadium (including tailgating areas) and Pegula Ice Arena, to learn more about available means to increase sustainability of Penn State sports events including a zero-waste initiative.

Virtual learning environments: an evaluation of their development in a sample of educational setting
This resource is a 28-page Ofsted survey of VLE usage in 35 selected establishments. It also draws upon the reference to VLEs in recent Ofsted reports. The data is drawn from the full range from primary schools through secondary and post-16 to colleges providing adult education. Some of the data comes from the virtual survey of VLEs. Published in 2009, this extensive survey covers the period following the publication of the DfES Harnessing Technology in 2005.
SAT Prep: Test 5, Section 9, Part 3
Students, improve your math SAT score! The instructor uses an electronic chalkboard to model problems. This video is appropriate for high school students. The Virtual Genetics Lab
The Virtual Genetics Lab (VGL) is a simulation of transmission genetics that approximates, as closely as possible, the hypothesis-testing environment of genetics research. In this lab, students cross hypothetical creatures and examine the progeny in order to determine the mechanism of inheritance of a particular trait. As in actual research, it is not possible to 'see the answer' - the student must decide for herself when she has collected enough data to be sure of her model. The goal is to have
UA at the Leading Edge - Hong Hua, Ph.D.
Dr. Hong Hua was honored on March 24, 2010, at Innovation Day at the University of Arizona for developing new ways of visualization by merging augmented and virtual reality environments. Dr. Hua is Associate Professor of Optical Sciences and Associate Professor of Electrical and Computer Engineering.
Bioinformatics, Virtual Labs, and the Human Genome Project
This session introduces bioinformatics using a case study of pathogenic bacterial identification via a Howard Hughes Medical Institute's virtual lab and NCBI web database searches. Another goal is to get the students thinking, writing and talking about the impact of the human genome project. Our students do the exercise independently coming together in the laboratory to present and discuss their findings--this feature makes the exercise feasible for large or small classes with limited laboratory
