Measures and the Unmeasurable
Nowhere do we ever find a similar environment as the one related to the tea ceremony. We may learn from the teamasters as we may learn from our masters of architecture. Directly and indirectly we are influenced by our surroundings which have been proved by research and which we ourselves experience in our daily life. The full scale experiments have been made on this subject. Related to the nervous mind the experiments were concentrated of form expressing safety and peace.
Attendance and students' school experiences
This report was commissioned by the National Educational Welfare Board (NEWB) in Ireland. It is an exploratory study which draws together literature and findings related to characteristics of school attendance by pupils in Irish primary and post-primary schools. It uses a number of data sources, particularly re-working data collected by the Economic and Social Research Institute (ESRI) and the NEWB. In particular, it highlights issues relating to poor attendance, discussing definitions of terms

Approach to Computer Implementation in Architectural Curriculum
This paper examines traditional teaching methods in architecture and identifies opportunities which are offered by computers for changing the teaching process. Introduction of CAAD to the teaching schedules unquestionably and explicity uncovered a need of changes within the whole schedule of study. In this paper we will submit the thesis that the problem does not lay in how will CAAD be incorporated into the architectural curriculum, because it is the CAAD that has the potential to become an int
An Eakins Masterpiece Restored: Seeing The Gross Clinic Anew
July 23, 2010 - January 9, 2011: Acquired by the Philadelphia Museum of Art and the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts in 2007 after a stirring public campaign to keep the painting in Philadelphia, Thomas Eakins’s masterpiece, Portrait of Dr. Samuel D. Gross (The Gross Clinic) of 1875, has been cleaned and restored for the first time in almost fifty years. The painting emerges from the conservation studio as the centerpiece of this exhibition, which throws new light on a work acclaime
Essential Art, Spiritual Art (Jacob Lawrence/ George Tsutakawa)
Upon Reflection hosts two of the most prominent University of Washington artists, the late Jacob Lawrence and George Tsutakawa, in this 1990 interview with host Al Page. Lawrence, whose namesake was used for the UW School of Art Gallery, talks about his paintings of African Americans while Tsutakawa reveals his own work on fountains and architecture.

TOPIC: Exam Taking Skills, Outlines, and Advice for Law Students
During the week of Oct. 17, 2005, CALI's Director of Curriculum Development, Deb Quentel, spoke with six law professors about outlines, studying for class, preparing for exams, time management, and how professors grade exams. The conversations were recorded as podcasts. While these podcasts are not intended to take the place of a conversation with your professor, the professors hope that these podcasts give law students
Britain was the first country to industrialise, and it acquired the largest empire ever during this same period. But its sphere of economic influence extended far beyond the boundaries of the formal British Empire. This unit focuses on the economics of empire, using a case study of one town, Dundee in eastern Scotland, to explore this huge topic.

Hunting animals (predators) are adapted for finding and catching food in many ways. Animals that are hunted (prey) are also adapted to avoid being found
Noam Chomsky, around whose work much of the Syntax series revolves, gives listeners a glimpse into the evolution of his own thinking, with an emphasis on areas of linguistics where computational considerations play a major role.
Chomsky briefly outlines the key components of a biologically based linguistics that be
This course covers introductory microbiology from a systems perspective, considering microbial diversity, population dynamics, and genomics. Emphasis is placed on the delicate balance between microbes and humans, and the changes that result in the emergence of infectious diseases and antimicrobial resistance. The case study approach covers such topics as vaccines, toxins, biodefense, and infections including Legionnaire’s disease, tuberculosis, Helicobacter pylori, and plague.
Given that there is a need to shade a window from the summer sun and also a need to expose it to the winter sun, this article describes an algorithm to design automatically a geometric construct that satisfies both requirements. The construct obtained represents the minimum solution to the simultaneous requirements. The window may be described by an arbitrary convex polygon and it may be oriented in any direction and it may be placed at any chosen latitude. The algorithm consists of two sequenti
The Interpresence Project exercises the language of communication design and mediatecture to propose planetary coalescence through complex and innovative informational flows through cyberspace allowing for human teleactive encounters.
The work is developed applying the perspective restitution method, based on the photographic survey of buildings. It researches the accuracy selection of the instruments, that should be effective, easy to manage, low cost and it allow fast results so as to let us compile a digital graphic data bases of the chosen works. The aim of the project is to elaborate graphic documents not only from the paradigmatic works but also from domestic architecture, so important in the consolidation of city. The
Urban sprawl is frequently associated with the idea of an unsuitable development, leading to increasing economic, social and environmental problems. Moreover, its control is difficult because multiple patterns (concerning numerous traditional urban planning fields) overlap. In order to understand the sprawl process and to manage its consequences, it must be simplified. The construction of a decision making tool appears then interesting. The GIS-based tool presented here is being developed incoll
This paper investigates possible intersections between some contemporary artistic modalities and architectural practice. At first, it describes and discusses different uses of art in architectural history. Through the analyzes of Le Corbusier?s artistic and architectural practices, it observes the limits of looking at art as only ?inspiration? for architectural form and points to the necessity of surpassing this formal approach. More than bringing pictorial ?inspiration?, art, as a experimental
An exploration on the analogy-based idea generation process in industrial design is reported. In particular we try to identify relationships between the sketching process and the analogy building in order to elicit requirements for a supporting software. We use concurrent think aloud protocols to obtain experimental data and an extension of a proved content oriented schema to analyze them. Statistical analysis on segments containing .analogical chains. found relations between analogical and desi
