Dr Rossana Wright obtained her MSci in Chemistry (1992) in her native country, at Universidad de la Repύblica, in Uruguay. In 1993 she obtained the award of a Research Fellowship from The Ohio State University, to pursue a PhD under the supervision of Prof Terry Miller (Ohio Eminent Scholar). Her research studies centred on High Resolution, Rotationally-Resolved, Electronic Spectroscopy of Free Radicals. During her PhD studies, Dr Wright won the 1996 Mayer-Henne Graduate Student Research Competition and was awarded her PhD in December 1997. Dr Wright then moved to the UK, joining Prof. Tony Stace's research group at the University of Sussex with an EPSRC post-doctoral fellowship in 1998. In Stace's group she was actively involved in studying the coordination and chemistry of stable metal complexes in the gas phase, as well as designing and builiding a helium nanodroplet molecular beam apparatus, to sudy metallic clusters at 1K.
In 2005 she moved to Nottingham as a temporary lecturer, and in 2006 was appointed as a Teaching Fellow in Physical Chemistry. Dr Wright was awarded the prestigious Lord Dearing Award in 2013, an award that recognises the outstanding achievements of University of Nottingham staff in enhancing the student learning experience. Dr Wright has been acting as Director of Teaching and Learning of the School of Chemistry since August 2014. She obtained the status of Senior Fellow of The Higher Education Academy in 2016, in recognition of attainment against the UK Professional Standards Framework for teaching and learning support in higher education. Dr Wright was promoted to Associate Professor in Physical Chemistry in 2017.

Dr Wright has a keen interest in the field of learning technologies, as a means to encourage engagement and enhancing students' learning. Some examples of the resources Dr Wright has created are: the development of the 'online lab' system (online manual, electronic report and electronic marking), which has been implemented successfully in our teaching laboratories; video screencasts as support learning resources; and the use of online quizzes for both formative and summative synoptic activities. Dr Wright is also interested in the use of bespoke e-learning resources to overcome teaching difficulties generated in classes in areas with vast ranges in abilities, for example maths skills or IT expertise. She is also actively involved in promoting electronic management of coursework assessment, within her School and across the University. As the school's representative on the University's working group in implementing new e-learning initiatives, Dr Wright has encouraged and supported staff in the use of technology-enhanced teaching and learning methods in the recent years.
