My PhD research topic is to investigate the application of remote sensing technology using an intelligent fleet of autonomous multi-drone-robots in order to automate the exploration of hydrocarbon prior to drilling in the oil production industry. Manual process planting geophones (sensors) into the soil and detecting seismic disturbances caused by vibrating trucks or dynamite detonations which act as a vibration source. This exploration process involves repeated manual deployment and redeployment of sensors. This PhD project will investigate the application of optimization and machine learning in order to use drones and remote sensors to provide an alternative to the manual process. The aim will be to develop an intelligent fleet of autonomous multi-drone-robots to accurately detect seismic pattern for hydrocarbon exploration and to collect data remotely. This systems would be very effective in mapping and identification of hydrocarbon distribution in an inhospitable environment also to cover wide area within a specified period.
