Biography

Ioanna is a Ph.D. researcher at the School of Law of the University of Nottingham in the areas of intellectual property law, blockchain technology and the fashion sector, for which she has been awarded a UoN School of Law Scholarship. Her supervisors are Prof. Estelle Derclaye and Prof. Paul Torremans.

Ioanna is a Lecturer in Law at University College London. She previously was a Lecturer in Law at Nottingham Trent University (2022-2023) and a Postgraduate Teaching Assistant in Law at the University of Nottingham (2020-2023). Before that, she was a Lecturer in Intellectual Property Law at Kingston University London (2021-2022). Ioanna also is a guest lecturer in fashion law and tech at, among others, the Milano Fashion Institute, Nottingham Trent University and the University of Szeged.

Ioanna holds a Master of Laws (LL.M.) degree in IP & IT law from the University of Sussex with Distinction (2018), as well as a First Class with Honours Bachelor of Laws (LL.B.) from Coventry University (2017).

During her time at the university, Ioanna has worked with Professor Estelle Derclaye and the University of Nottingham Commercial Law Centre as a research assistant on copyright law (2021). She was the Co-Chair of the UoN PGR Law Learning Community Forum (2022-2023) and has delivered LLM Workshops for the University of Nottingham. She also was the Assistant - Organiser for the European Copyright Society's (ECS) Annual Conference 2022, which took place in Nottingham, hosted by Prof. Estelle Derclaye.

Expertise Summary

Ioanna's research interests lie in UK and comparative intellectual property law, particularly copyright, trade marks and designs, and their intersection with new technologies, including distributed ledger technologies and 3D printing. She has a special interest in the creative industries, primarily the fashion, art and GLAM sectors, and her most recent work focused on IP law protection and enforcement, NFTs and the metaverse.

Her work has been published in reputable peer-reviewed journals, such as the Entertainment Law Review, the European Intellectual Property Review, as well as at leading IP law blogs, including the IPKat and Kluwer Copyright Blog. She also is a peer-reviewer for the Journal of World Intellectual Property, the Asia Pacific Law Review and Thomson Reuters.
