New University Strategy

The University’s Global Strategy 2020 (GS2020) is approaching the end of its intended period. The University has achieved many of the goals set out in GS2020 and now looks to new opportunities for our research and teaching as well as facing fresh challenges in the external policy and financial environment.

The time is right to take a new look at our aspirations and priorities for the coming decade – for our research, our teaching, our global outlook and supporting the people, processes and systems which are vital to delivering this.

Deputy Vice-Chancellor and Provost, Professor Andy Long, is leading work to develop the next strategy, aiming to produce a Green Paper of initial thoughts and priorities early in 2019 that will evolve into an agreed University strategy in the summer.

The University will publish updates and key documents on these webpages as the development of the strategy moves forward.

Engagement with staff and stakeholders is critical in producing a strategy that both reflects and drives the work of us all at the University - and that engagement with University staff starts at the very beginning.

University Executive Board members have hosted a range of 21st Century University workshop sessions for faculty and professional, operational and technical services staff across November in the UK and overseas to generate ideas that will form the building blocks of our new University strategy.

The UEB is grateful to everyone who contributed their views through the 21st Century University events. We are now analysing more than 3,000 contributions to identify the key common threads for the next stage of the strategy’s development and will provide an update following the Christmas break.
