Is having a plan always the best plan? How do you future proof that plan in a world that is changing rapidly? This workshop will explore an alternative approach to career planning that relies less on having a clear direction and more on building the right skills to make the most of opportunities when they present themselves.

Understanding our own career motivation is one of the most important things when it comes to picking a direction, but it is also one of the most elusive. Why do some jobs seem more interesting than others? What does that say about us as individuals? How can we articulate our motivations to a hiring manager or recruiter in a persuasive and engaging way? How confident are we really about what we want from a career?

Nottingham Chemistry alumni from a range of career fields (lab and non-lab) will give short talks about their career journeys and roles before a panel Q&A session. Following the talks and questions there will be opportunity for networking and further discussion with light refreshments.
