Biography

Courtney graduated from Queen's University Belfast in 2020 with a bachelor's degree in chemical engineering. During her degree, she completed a 15-month industrial placement at GSK and ThermoFisher Scientific in Cork, Ireland. Courtney is currently doing a PhD with the Sustainable Hydrogen CDT under the supervision of Dr Graham Newton, Dr Darren Walsh and Dr Lee Johnson. Courtney is working in collaboration with the QUILL Research Centre on the development of stoichiometric and non-stoichiometric protic ionic liquid electrolytes for the production of green hydrogen. The ionic liquids allow for the investigation of higher operating temperatures than conventional electrolytes, which improves reaction kinetics; thus diversifying the range of materials which may be studied as catalysts and electrodes.
