Anti-virus

Sophos is the university’s recommended anti-virus software.

If you have a University-owned device

Antivirus software is installed on your device and will run automatically. When working away from the University, ensure you connect to the Virtual Private Network (VPN) for at least two hours each week so any necessary updates can be installed on your device.

Using your personal device

Examples of free antivirus software are AVG, Avast, Sophos Home, Avira Free Antivirus, BitDefender Antivirus Free Edition and Panda Free Antivirus. After you have installed antivirus software on your personal device, set it to scan the whole device for malware at least once a week.

How do I install Sophos?

All Windows PCs have been upgraded to the latest version of Sophos to ensure continued anti-virus protection.

Sophos is also available as a free download for staff and students to install on personal devices.
