Description

A Science Education Interest Group meeting

We would like to invite science teachers, mentors, ITE students and science ECTs in our partnership schools to explore the ideas around learning outside the classroom with us at our next Subject Interest Group.

We have a number of speakers joining us to share their experiences and good practice. This includes colleagues from the School of Education, an outdoor education provider, and colleagues from partnership schools.

Following the guest speakers we are hoping to share some outdoor learning resources and activities with you including an update on the new Natural History GCSE. If the weather is dry we hope to have the opportunity to experience some of these on campus.

We have a number of different documents to read and come together to consider, discuss and support each other as we think about relevance, practicalities, opportunities and constraints.

We will reflect on these documents by considering key questions such as:

  • Why do we need to think about outdoor learning in science?
  • How might outdoor learning be part of our school curriculum?
  • Is outdoor learning an opportunity to re-think and reframe how science is taught?
  • How might we support outdoor learning as part of our science curriculum at the University of Nottingham? What do ITE providers need to do for trainees to develop these skills?

For further details about the seminar please email Elena Wood.
