In December the school welcomed Fernwood School’s Equality, Diversity and Inclusion (EDI) champions onto campus. The pupils had the opportunity to sample a PGCE multicultural maths session and share their learning with the cohort.
They visited a lecture theatre and spent some time thinking about the purpose of school from their perspectives. Mia Bellusova, School of Education's EDI lead, talked to the group about the school's EDI work and shared some newly developed EDI discussion cards. The pupils had lots of ideas about how they might use these in school to support their inclusion activities.
The group also had a tour of Jubilee Campus and its facilities and then finally met with some of our science PGCE cohort who spoke about studying at university and what it is like training to be a teacher. The pupils asked lots of interesting questions but also shared some important messages that they would like new teachers to hear about what they think schools should be like and what teachers can do to help them with their learning.
