Looking to become a teacher but don’t have a degree?

Our brand new Mathematics and Education Secondary Teacher Degree Apprenticeship offers you a new route to qualified teacher status (QTS), without needing a degree to join the programme.

This new apprenticeship pathway has been created to open the doors to teaching, allowing you to gain the necessary qualifications to teach in England whilst developing your skills in the classroom.

Our new teacher degree apprenticeship supports you to study towards a bachelor of science degree in mathematics and education whilst on programme and learn the skills, knowledge and behaviours to become an engaging secondary maths teacher.

Delivered by our School of Education, which is ranked top 10 in the UK and top 60 worldwide in the QS World Rankings 2025 for education and training, you’ll be accessing a programme from a top-tier institution, with a long history of producing exceptional teachers.

And you'll be ready to teach independently as soon as you complete our programme. Despite common misconceptions, once you earn your QTS, you're fully qualified to teach in England—no PGCE required.

Plus, you’ll benefit from having a wealth of on-the-job, practical experience gained during your time on programme, setting you up to succeed as a secondary maths teacher in your school.

During your time on-programme, you’ll learn the knowledge, skills and behaviours to become an inclusive, effective secondary maths teacher.

By drawing on the expertise of the School of Mathematical Science and the cutting-edge research within the School of Education, the teaching will be focused on you learning the skills needed to:

  • develop a deep understanding of mathematics
  • understand special educational needs and the role of the teacher as an inclusive practitioner
