A project led by Professor Mary Oliver investigates the impact of primary school teachers’ background and professional practice on pupils’ experiences and attainment in science using data from the Trends in International Mathematics and Science Study (TIMSS), which assesses the skills and knowledge of primary and secondary pupils in more than 60 countries. Funded by Nuffield Foundation, the final report has been released today.
Professor Mary Oliver is a member of the School of Education's Learning Sciences Research Institute. She was supported on this project by Dr Mike Adkins, who is a member of the university's Observatory for Mathematical Education.
