On 30 June 2025, Dr Liang Bao from Zhejiang Normal University (ZJNU) visited the School of Education.
Dr Liang Bao is Deputy Director of International Office at ZJNU, with research specialism in Chinese language education in African countries. During his visit, Dr Bao met with the Head of School, Professor Volker Wedekind to discuss possible collaborations. Dr Bao also met with Dr Xin Gao and Dr Yang Zhang, who teach on MA Teaching Chinese to Speakers of Other Languages. Potential areas of collaboration emerging from this visit include a summer school for ZJNU students in 2026, and a joint research project on Chinese migrant children in Africa.
The School of Education currently have several ongoing partnership activities with ZJNU. They include two School of Education research knowledge exchange funded projects led by Lip Vi Teoh and Martin Cummings respectively, researching African children’s school experiences in Yiwu, China and inclusive teacher education in England and China.
With ZJNU colleagues, Imene Kassous, Anne Emerson, and PhD student Ning Ning are involved as guest editors for a special issue on global perspectives on teaching students with autism spectrum disorder: Teachers' experiences and professional needs to be published by Teachers and Teaching: Theory and Practice journal. Anne Emerson was also invited to Hangzhou this April 2025 to deliver a keynote on autism and inclusive education at ZJNU.
