Biography

Beth is a Senior Research Fellow at the Observatory for Mathematical Education. Beth joined the University of Nottingham from the Centre for Early Mathematics Learning at Loughborough University, bringing expertise in impact-focussed, practice-oriented research using a variety of mixed-methods approaches. Beth has led a programme of research investigating the gap between education research and classroom practice, focussing on communication between researchers and educators, and exploring research engagement and professional development in the early years.

Her work also includes a long-standing interest in textbook design and how students engage with mathematical text, stemming from her PhD research in collaboration with Oxford University Press and the Centre for Mathematical Cognition (Loughborough University). Beth's research interests are united in her commitment to generating research with meaningful impact on policy and practice.
