The Preston Salt Baths and Conservationist Working Retreat

The studio unit ‘4A’ takes an angle on topographical architecture; this year looking at the theme of ‘lines and connection’, with each project developing this concept through a unique and contextually inspired approach.

The Preston Salt Baths and Conservationist Working Retreat will offer a psycho-geographical experience, derived from five main principles inspired by ancient heritage and the practices of native populations to craft an environment with expression of the genius loci, and to connect Lancastrians with their region.

This project takes an approach as to physically renew city fabric alongside the declining coastal ecosystems, through education and sustainable land management. A new contemporary attitude to urban development is suggested in order to equip the local populous with the skills and awareness to adapt with a changing climate.
