The Contemporary Literary Studies Network is a new constellation of academics working across disciplines in the School of English, specialising in the broad field of contemporary literary studies. We welcome new members from across the university and are open to collaboration.

We are launching a new research seminar series of informal talks and discussion from internal and external speakers, and are excited to begin with Dr Ben Masters, who teaches modern and contemporary literature in the School of English. All are welcome next Weds 2nd November 4-5pm, to hear about his memoir in progress, join the discussion and enjoy a wine reception afterwards.

Silver Washed: A Memoir in Progress
Dr Ben Masters

In this presentation, Ben Masters will be talking about his work-in-progress, Silver Washed. Silver Washed is a work of memoir, nature writing, literary biography and cultural history. In one sense it is an account of the last year of a father’s life, but it is also an extended and digressive meditation on butterflies – their natural, literary and cultural histories; their influence on the lives and work of writers; and how they became a way for a father and son to articulate the inexpressible.
