Staff and student running marathon to raise money for the Upendo Junior School in Kenya

Upendo is a school located in a remote village in Kenya, founded by a former PhD student from the School of English, Dr Masibo Lumala. Masibo and his wife Rose have converted their home into a charitable school to support their local community. The School of English fundraises each year to support the costs of teachers' salaries and this summer we would like to help them as they build new classrooms to provide even more opportunities for local children to go to school.

This summer, a team of academics and undergraduate student from the School (Jo Guy, Kevin Harvey, Mike Rodgers, Joe Jackson, Nathan Waddell and Louise Baker) will be training hard for the Robin Hood half marathon taking place on Sunday, 27 September 2015 and raising as much money as possible to buy bricks to build a new classroom for Upendo.
