Wind Engineering

Research in wind engineering typically involves wind tunnel testing to predict pressures on scale models of buildings. Increasingly, however, Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) is being successfully used to model forces on buildings, pedestrian level wind environment and where best to site wind farms in complex terrain.

Current research

  • Bridge aerodynamics
  • Consistent modelling of the atmospheric boundary layer
  • Flow over complex terrain
  • Cross-wind effects on vehicles and trains
