Information about Fraud

East Midlands Regional Cyber Crime unit have identified an upward trend, nationally, of University email domain impersonation being used to obtain goods by Fraud.

Scammers are registering domains that are, at first glance, similar to genuine University domains (xxxxx-ac.uk   xxxxxac.org    xxxxxacu-uk.org   xxxxxacuk.org).

These domains are then used to contact suppliers across the UK and Europe order goods in the name of the University

Someone has purchased the domain nottingham-ac.co.uk and is writing to suppliers purporting to be a member of the Procurement Team.  If you receive an e-mail quoting a return address using nottingham-ac.co.uk please do not respond but let me know. The matter has been reported to the Police and they have now asked that anyone approached or affected by this report it to Action Fraud on 0300 123 2040 or via their website.

If you receive any such requests for goods please check it is a legitimate order before progressing.
