She was one of the heroines of Tenza, who was shot in 1817, for defending the Independence cause. (Knaster, 486.)

On 3 December 1817 she was María de los Angeles Avila were shot in Casanare by the Spaniards. They were not tried before a court. (P. Forero, 158)
