Major Milestones

0-1 months:
Listens attentively to sounds and voices.

2 months:
Seek out a human face out of preference; Discovers hands and feet as extension of self.

4-5 months
Coos; is interested in environment; forgets about objects they cannot see; explores with mouth.

6 months
Babbles and imitates sounds.

9 months
Discriminates between parents and others; Object Permanence has developed; Responds to simple directions "give it to Daddy" "wave bye-bye"; Trial and error problem solving is developing; Recognises names of familiar objects 'daddy, dog, nose

12 months
Beginning of symbolic thinking points to picture of a cat in a book when asked; Looks in several places for a hidden object; May use single words.

18 months
Obeys simple instructions; Can define objects by use e.g. phone; Can Identify objects by type (eg points to a cat in a book, even if it has blue fur).

24 months
Has 2 word phrases; Sorts shapes and colours; Uses more complex toys; Can put simple puzzles together).
