Research Summary
The U.L.L.a.D.S (Understanding Legal Literacy and Disciplinary Skills) research project.
This pilot project is funded the Association of Law Teachers.
The research will investigate gather data from undergraduate students on perception of reading, reading history and reading experiments (using eye tracking technology) in order to better understand the strategies used by students to navigate primary sources. The aim of this research is to increase understanding of reading literacy (specifically how law students engage with discipline-based communication) and provide insight to reading strategies. It is hoped that the data collected will support researchers to identify specific student challenges, and to collaborate to develop wider scholarship support for law students reading legal texts.
This project is led by Ms Hannah Gibbons-Jones & Prof Richard Hyde (School of Law, University of Nottingham), and the pilot collaboration partners are Dr Stella Coyle & Dr Abigail Pearson (School of Law, Keele University), Prof Jane Jarman & Dr Elyse Wakelin (Nottingham Law School, Nottingham Trent University) and Ms Frances Seabridge (CEPLER, Birmingham Law School, University of Birmingham).
