Senior Research Officer for Biomembrane NMR group, Faculty of Medicine & Health Sciences

After graduating with a first class Biochemistry degree from the University of Nottingham, I went on to study for a PhD in Rob Layfield's group investigating the effects of Paget's Disease of Bone-associated p62 mutations on protein structure and function (funded by Arthritis Research UK). Having finished my PhD, my new role as a Postdoc involves defining the disease mechanism in patients with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) and frontotemporal lobar degeneration (FTLD), conditions in which p62 mutations have also been identified. As in my PhD, my project involves work in Rob's lab and with Mark Searle's group (based in the CBS building) to take advantage of all the structural biology facilities available.
