Expertise summary

Dr Clamp's main research area is in restorative justice - an approach to dealing with crime and conflict that brings those most affected into contact. Her most recent research includes:

  • A national survey on police use of Restorative Justice in England and Wales (Clamp and O’Mahony 2019); an evaluation of a policing pilot that operationalised Restorative Justice techniques and theory to improve local policing practice (Clamp 2020).
  • A qualitative content analysis of Restorative Justice promotional materials from each Police and Crime Commissioner in England and Wales (Clamp et al. 2022).
  • A national survey on the implementation of the new rights on Restorative Justice contained within the Code of Practice for Victims of Crime (Clamp 2022).


She was the Chair of the Board of Trustees of the Restorative Justice Council (2018-2021), the national voice and standards setting agency for restorative justice in England and Wales.

She appeared on Matthew Syed’s BBC4 Podcast, Sideways, that drew attention to the story of Ray and Vi Donavan meeting their son’s killer.
