Intramuscular and Subcutaneous Injection Technique

Learning Outcomes

  1. Revise the principles of drug administration by intramuscular (IM) or subcutaneous (SC) injection.
  2. Outline the appropriate anatomy and sites for IM and SC injections.
  3. Identify the components of a syringe and needle and discuss the choice of needle length.
  4. Identify the skills of 'drawing up' a medication.
  5. Review the techniques of drug administration by IM and SC injection.
  6. Identify the need for good documentation and record keeping.
