Emily Cutts, a 3rd year undergraduate student in Pharmacy has been taking part in a global Social Media project with Professor Claire Anderson.  Here is her report in her own words:

"Over the last year, I have been fortunate enough to take part in a global Social Media project with Professor Claire Anderson and the Universitas 21 Network. The network is made up of a group of research intense Universities with Health Education as part of their essential mission. Eight of these Universities, including the University of Nottingham, have been working together on a project around the use of Social media in Health Education. Taking part in this project has given me the opportunity to work alongside fellow students and academics from across the globe spanning countries including Hong Kong, Canada and Australia – this meant some very late conference calls for us in the UK! This September I was lucky enough to be invited to attend and participate in the 2014 Universitas 21 Health Sciences Group annual meeting in Shanghai. Despite experiencing jet lag, I managed to successfully deliver a presentation at the event on the work I’d been doing! For me this was a once in a life time opportunity and it was fantastic to finally meet the people who we’d been working with on the project.

I even had the time to do some exploring of Shanghai too – I managed to go up the Oriental Pearl tower, go on the famous Huangpu River Cruise, visit a Buddhist temple and everyone from the conference had a lovely formal dinner which gave me the chance to brush up my skill of using chop sticks! The experience has fuelled me in wanting to pursue a career in academia and research. I look forward to continuing with the project in the coming year and can’t wait to see where it takes us!"
