Saja completed her MPharm degree (1st Class Hons) at UCL School of Pharmacy in 2014. Her MPharm research project was under the supervision of Professor Ijeoma Uchegbu and investigated the utilisation of quaternary ammonium palmitoyl glycol chitosan nanoparticles for the formulation of poorly soluble drugs. Saja then completed her pre-registration training in community pharmacy (Boots) before joining the Centre for Doctoral Training (CDT) in Advanced Therapeutics and Nanomedicines in 2015.
Her first CDT training project was under the supervision of Dr Stefan Guldin at UCL Department of Chemical Engineering. The project was titled: "Supramolecular recognition and stimuli-induced interaction between gold nanoparticles and small molecules".
Her second CDT training project took place in the pharmaceutical industry (Medimmune) under the supervision of Dr Silvia Sonzini (Formulation Sciences). The project was titled: "Supramolecular conjugation of gold nanoparticles to antimicrobial peptides for antibacterial and wound healing applications". More specifically, it involved the use of Cucurbit[7]uril molecules for the supramolecular conjugation of antimicrobial peptides to functionalised gold nanoparticles.

She is currently conducting her PhD project under the supervision of Professor Steve Brocchini and Professor Sir Peng T Khaw, titled: "The Engineering of an injectable Collagen formulation for drug delivery and cell therapy ". It involves the formulation of an injectable collagen-drug formulation which gels upon injection to form a depot. This injectable collagen formulation is also investigated for use as an injectable cell therapy product for use in regenerative medicines.
